Install with the CLI

In a terminal, from the folder you want:

npx --yes palatekit@latest install simple-english

With no option, the skill goes to ~/.agents/skills/; add --agent claude-code (or codex, cursor…) to target an agent.

First time: connect the CLI with

npx --yes palatekit@latest login

The agent applies twelve writing rules to your documents: short sentences, condition before command, one word one meaning, terms defined at first use. It also follows rules for its own replies (answer first, prose only). A Strict mode applies the ASD-STE100 vocabulary, and a check mode lists violations with a rewrite for each.

Updated November 2, 2026

What you get

  • SKILL.md: the document and reply rules, with a before/after example
  • references/rule-catalog.md: the 53 rules of Issue 9 with examples
  • references/strict-vocabulary.md and word-swaps.md: controlled vocabulary and overused words to replace
  • references/use-cases.md: patterns for error messages, release notes, incident reports

Good fit for

  • Writing a guide, README or release notes that non-specialists can read
  • Preparing documentation that will be translated later
  • Checking a text and getting each violation with a rewrite

Not for

  • Marketing copy or brand writing, because the rules remove persuasion
  • Getting an official ASD-STE100 compliance guarantee
